Question

Asked 9/10/2009

I am going through a debt settlement company to settle unsecured debt.

If that does not work out as planned and the creditors sue me instead , would it be too late to file bankruptcy?

Also if my debt is settled as planned can any of my secured debt
loans have the interest rates raised?

You can still file BK, however , why are you are using this "debt settlement" company?

How will this benefit you? You do realize that if any comapny takes less than they are owed, it seriously affects your credit and the amount is still charged off as abad debt.

Then you will be paying for nothing.
I would be curious as to what they told you this would do for you

Debt settlement is a good option before bankruptcy. For any reason you are not able to complete the program you can file bankruptcy and become debt free.
If your debt are settled the secured debt interest will not go high unless you default on the secured loan.
