How to get a pro bono bankruptcy lawyer?

My dad needs to file for bankruptcy. He went with the first guy that sent him a letter about how to file for bankruptcy and it's going to cost over $2000. Obviously since we need to file for bankruptcy, we can't afford that.

My dad will not go to another lawyer unless I do the work to find one and I have no idea where to start.

How do you ge a pro bono bankruptcy lawyer in South West Missouri?

If he is planning to file under Chapter 7, he does not need an attorney.

But, before I prattle, go here, and see for yourself:

The pro bono program for the Western District of Missouri bankruptcy districts is usually only available for those who are facing an adversarial proceeding in bankruptcy. But, for more information, go here:

Most lawyers do not take pro bono cases in bankruptcy court. But, almost all of them will work out a payment schedule with you. They understand that you are not filing for bankruptcy because you are rich and loaded with cash, but because you have money issues. Therefore, most will file your paperwork with a few hundred dollars down, and monthly payments to make up the rest.

$2000 sounds a little high. Most charge $1000 to $1500. The easiest thing to do is open up the phone book, call several lawyers and ask what they charge, and if they will work with some sort of payment plan. Bankruptcy is a competitive business and you will be surprised with how many are willing top work something out with you.
