One good way to find a bankruptcy lawyer is to contact your local bar association and request a referral. You can find your local bar association by typing "[your state] bar association" in Google.
Of course, you can also use the yellow pages and find a lawyer close to you, or use the lawyer with the ad that you find most persuasive.
One other way is to get a referral from a friend or acquaintance who has gone through bankruptcy. If you know someone who has done this, you can ask them what lawyer they used and if they were happy with the service.

Just like any other lawyer, you call and talk to them for five minutes and see if they take some time with you or gaff you off. The bar can refer you to some but my friends had a novel approach in finding a divorce lawyer. He sat through divorce court for a few days and asked the bailiff during a break. Word of mouth is always another way but few people want to admit to BK.
