If you were served summons for defaulting in your credit card payment, you can try contacting them to see if you can be put on some kind of payment plan. However, if this is something you cannot do and you have other debts then your best bet is to see a bankruptcy lawyer because if you loose the lawsuit against your credit card company, they will garnish your bank account and your wages.

When you go to court, bring proof of your income, and all of your bills. You should file for bankruptcy, if you cannot afford your debt.
You will become less stressed, and get a brand new start.
Sure, at first it is not good for your credit, but after a certain amount of time, after filing for bankruptcy, you can re-build your reputation.
People go through problems with their credit, especially in todays economy.
I would recommend that you do your best after you file. Re-build your credit, and give yourself a new start.
Good Luck.
